Which eyeliner is best for you? – Pencil, Gel, or liquid

My makeup looks always end up looking incomplete if I don’t include eyeliner.

To add a little oomph (or definition) to an entire look for any situation, I need to slap a winged eyeliner across my eyes.

But given the number of different types of eyeliners available, how do I pick the right one?

It’s difficult to determine which is the best one for you because they were all good options for me once upon a time.

In this post, I’ve outlined the different kinds of eyeliners and discussed their pros and cons in hopes of helping you choose the right one for you.

And I’ll also share some useful tricks on selecting the best type of eyeliner for your specific needs.

So here we go, let’s take a look at each type of eyeliner and see which one is the best for us!

Here are 3 types of eyeliners (pencil, gel and liquid) and their pros and cons

There are several kinds of eyeliner pencils available.

You can choose from a variety of different eyeliners for your eye look, including gel, liquid, and even pencil eyeliners.

Lining the edge of your eyelids has been around for centuries. Ancient Egyptians used kohl as makeup to darken their eyelashes.

Now that we have understood what the three different styles of eyeliner are, we are going to dig deeper and learn their function, performance, and more!

Pencil Type Eyeliners

Eyeliners can be found in various types such as pencil, crayon, and cake liners.

They’re usually used anywhere around the eye area, and they tend to have a creamy consistency.

Eyeliner pencils are especially useful for creating both kohl and smokey eyes. You can blend out the colors using these pencils.

For most people, pencil-style eyeliners are the best for creating a messy, rough around the edges sort of effect.

They’re not for people who want an absolutely perfect application every time they use them. If you like a precise finish, this is not the best eyeliner for you.

The most enjoyable part about using an eyeliner pencil is that there are so many different color options available for them.

They’re also quite easy to use, which makes them ideal for beginners looking for their first eyeliner look.

The one and only drawback?

Eyeliner pencils are the hardest to remove among all the other eyeliners and they usually leave behind a black stain which tends to take up to 3 days for it to completely disappear.

Gel type Eyeliners

These types of eyeliners use a heating method that softens the product so they’re easier to apply.

Gel eyeliners usually come in a little container and are used by applying them with an angled brush. Once they’re dry, they won’t move for anything!

Usually, gel-type eyeliners are waterproof so you can wear them anywhere, even when it rains.

But if you get an eyeliner that isn’t waterproof, make sure you don’t swim or cry because you risk having the liner smear and make yourself look like a Panda.

Gel eyeliners can usually stay on all day but that varies depending on how oily your skin is. If you’ve got really oily skin, any makeup product might wear off faster.

If you have oily skin like me, you know the struggle to make any kind of makeup last on your face!

One of the neat things about gel eyeliners is that they come in small pots so you can easily see when they’re running out.

You can just scoop the eyeliner off with a brush and use it directly.

Gel eyeliners are one of the best options if you want an everyday smokey eye look.

They slide on easily, giving you a smooth, even appearance, and won’t clump up like traditional pencil eyeliners.

Liquid Eyeliners

Liquid eyeliners come in various forms; however, I personally prefer the felt-tip eyeliners because they’re so simple to apply!

Most liquid liners consist of a thin liquid formula that gives them a runnier texture than gel pencils.

If you want a precise line drawn with a sharp point, then a liquid eyeliner would be good for you. However, it may take a lot of practice for you to get it right.

Whereas pencil and gel liners are best for people who prefer an easier application, who aren’t too fussy about how perfectly it matches their skin tone, and who just want something they can apply quickly.

One of the best parts about liquid eyeliners is that they’re easy to remove and are perfect for experimenting with different looks because you know that whatever you choose to do, it will look super neat.

Another advantage of using liquid eyeliners is that they help achieve an even and clump-free application which makes you look more presentable and less likely to look like you just rolled out of bed.

They’re probably my favorites among the lot.

My conclusions on which of these 3 types of eyeliners is best for you

The whole purpose of an eyeliner is to define your eyes and make them appear prettier than they already are.

There are different types of applications and they vary in their form and consistency and so it’s important to choose the one best suited for yourself.

Eyeliners give you the chance to go from soft and naturally beautiful to dramatic and glamorous.

So, even if you’re not exactly sure what kind of eye makeup looks best on you, an eyeliner will always help you achieve a look and stand out from the crowd.

Hopefully, this article has given you some insights into the different types of eyeliner that are available to you.

Now that you know everything you need to know, it’s time to go buy the perfect eyeliner for you!
